Amman, July 27 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa received an official Indonesian delegation on Monday to review the ministry’s experience in alternative care, disability inclusion, social and economic empowerment, and support for independent living within services provided to persons with disabilities.
The visit was organized by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on the sidelines of the delegation’s participation in the Arab Regional Conference to Follow Up on the Outcomes of the 2025 Global Disability Summit (GDS) recently held in Amman.
Bani Mustafa underscored the importance of the visit in facilitating the exchange of expertise and experience and highlighting the ministry’s best practices in the care and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
She said Jordan has made tangible progress in advancing a rights-based approach through an integrated and comprehensive service system centered on shifting from traditional care to rights-based empowerment and inclusion.
She added that, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan has adopted legislation, policies, and strategies that prioritize services and programs for persons with disabilities within the Kingdom’s development agenda.
Bani Mustafa said the ministry, in partnership with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, continues to develop alternative care arrangements and inclusive support services that enable independent living and community inclusion, while transitioning from institutional care to rights-based services centered on autonomy.
She added that, as part of the government’s commitment to expanding inclusive services, the ministry continues to establish early-intervention units and comprehensive day-care centers across the Kingdom.
The services and programs are provided free of charge to ensure that persons with disabilities and their families can access them easily, particularly in districts and governorates where demand is high.
During the visit, ministry officials presented programs targeting persons with disabilities and held extensive discussions with the delegation on plans and strategies implemented in cooperation with partner institutions.
The Indonesian delegation commended the ministry’s efforts in supporting persons with disabilities, saying Jordan’s experience represents a distinguished model based on relevant international best practices and standards.
