Amman, July 23 (Petra) – The Working Group of the Jordan-Japan Joint Committee held its first meeting in Amman on Thursday, implementing understandings reached during His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to Japan in November 2025.
Participants included representatives of government agencies from both countries and several Japanese institutions, including Japanese Deputy Ambassador to Jordan Tomoko Watanabe, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), as well as representatives of Japanese companies operating in the Kingdom.
Participants discussed challenges facing businesspeople in both countries, ways to improve the business and investment environment and enhance transparency, and new investment opportunities. They also discussed strengthening Jordan’s competitiveness as a regional hub for industry, services, and reconstruction in neighboring countries.
The two sides agreed to hold Joint Committee meetings annually and Working Group meetings every four months to follow up on the implementation of decisions and recommendations and address challenges facing investors.
Amman and Tokyo said the working group would serve as a platform for public-private dialogue, helping strengthen existing Japanese investments and attract new ones. They also agreed to follow up on challenges facing Japanese companies through implementation files identifying the responsible entities and timeframes required to address them.
Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply Secretary-General Dana Zoubi said the meeting reflected Jordan and Japan’s commitment to translating the outcomes of King Abdullah’s visit into practical measures that strengthen economic and investment cooperation and expand public-private partnerships between the two countries.
She added that Jordan continues to implement economic reforms and improve its business environment to enhance its attractiveness to investors. The ministry, in cooperation with relevant entities, is working to address challenges facing investors and provide a more efficient and transparent investment environment, she said.
