Amman, May 21 (Petra) – The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) participated in the fourth meeting of the International Expert Group on Expanding the International Narcotics Control Board’s (INCB) Lists of Hazardous Substances with Unknown Uses, held at United Nations headquarters in Vienna.
According to a JFDA statement issued Thursday, Head of the Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances, and Chemical Precursors Department Malak Mahayreh took part alongside international experts in discussions on advanced methods for identifying hazardous substances found in counterfeit or illegally manufactured pharmaceutical products.
During the meeting, Mahayreh delivered a presentation titled "The Regulatory Framework in Jordan and the Latest Developments Related to the Scheduling of Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances, and Chemical Precursors." She reviewed Jordan’s regulatory framework governing the scheduling of controlled substances, highlighted comparisons between Jordanian and international classification systems, and outlined the substances added to national schedules over the past five years.
Participants and international experts commended Jordan’s experience in the field, particularly its advanced monitoring systems and regulatory mechanisms, highlighting the Kingdom’s regional standing in combating narcotic and psychotropic substances.
The participation also included coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department in drafting the meeting’s final recommendations, including calls for relevant authorities to engage in international operations aimed at reporting newly emerging substances and counterfeit pharmaceutical products, as well as adopting modern approved tracking systems for such materials.
Director General of the JFDA Rana Obeidat said the participation reflects the institution’s active international role and the expertise of its specialized personnel, contributing to showcasing the strength of Jordan’s regulatory framework and reinforcing the JFDA’s position as a trusted reference authority in pharmaceutical regulation.
