Amman, Nov. 30 (Petra) -- The Secretary-General of the Higher Population Council, Issa Masarwa, and Director of Studies and Policies, Ali Mutlaq, participated in the third Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development, held this month under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.

In a statement on Sunday, the Council said the congress aimed to promote sustainable human development through themes such as investment in lifelong learning and digital skills, ensuring equal access to education and employment, and enhancing health and social justice by expanding universal health coverage and addressing the social determinants of health, with a focus on protecting the most vulnerable groups.

The statement added that the congress highlighted the empowerment of all generations, encouraging healthy and productive aging, strengthening social cohesion through culture and sports, and addressing global challenges including migration, environmental change, and population fragility by adopting innovative, knowledge-based solutions.

Congress recommendations were organized into three key themes. The first focused on integrating a comprehensive development vision into population policy, addressing unmet contraceptive needs, empowering women economically and socially, and digitizing population data.

The second theme emphasized investment in primary healthcare, reducing unnecessary cesarean sections and maternal and neonatal mortality, sustaining screening programs for non-communicable diseases and nutrition campaigns, and ensuring sustainable health financing through public-private partnerships.

The third theme highlighted the promotion of lifelong learning and training, integrating artificial intelligence skills, empowering youth and women through leadership programs, providing comprehensive social protection including for informal workers, and strengthening multilateral cooperation to share expertise in artificial intelligence, One Health, and social protection.
