Amman, Feb. 16 (Petra) – In a significant move toward industrial vertical integration, the Jordan Phosphates Mines Company (JPMC) has committed approximately $193 million to establish a new sulfuric acid production facility in the Shidiya region. The project – formalized through a strategic agreement with a specialized Chinese engineering firm – aims to bolster national manufacturing capabilities and maximize the value-added potential of Jordan’s natural resources on both domestic and international scales.

The facility is projected to achieve an annual output of approximately 900,000 tons of sulfuric acid. This production is a critical feedstock for the company’s broader expansion plans, specifically supporting the scaling of phosphoric acid production from its current capacity of 330,000 tons to 550,000 tons per annum. By securing a reliable internal supply of sulfuric acid, JPMC expects to stabilize operational workflows, reduce reliance on external inputs, and significantly lower overall production costs – thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of Jordanian phosphate derivatives.

Strategically, this investment aligns with JPMC’s long-term vision of transitioning from raw material extraction to high-value manufacturing and the development of advanced industrial complexes. The project will utilize cutting-edge engineering and environmental technologies to ensure operational efficiency while strictly adhering to international environmental standards. Beyond its industrial impact, the Shidiya plant is anticipated to stimulate regional economic development by creating new specialized employment opportunities for the local workforce and attracting further direct investment into the Kingdom’s industrial sector.
