Jordan reaffirms support for Arab causes at Arab League meeting

Cairo, Sept. 5 (Petra) -- Jordan's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Amjad Adailah, on Saturday headed the Jordanian delegation participating in a meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent representatives, convened for the council's 166th session under the chairmanship of Tunisia.

During the discussions, Adailah presented Jordan's position on the issues on the session's agenda, stressing the Kingdom's support for just Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, and highlighting Jordan's political, diplomatic, legal, and humanitarian efforts in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.

In this context, the Arab League Council welcomed Jordan's hosting of the ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and its holy sites on Aug. 5 in Amman. The meeting sought to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in Jerusalem. The council also stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of the recommendations and outcomes of the "Amman Declaration" issued by the meeting.

Adailah highlighted Jordan's active role, alongside other member states, in reaching decisions and recommendations aimed at strengthening the Arab position and enhancing collective coordination and cooperation. These efforts seek to bolster Arab capacity to address current challenges and the instability affecting the region as a result of war and its repercussions, including security and economic consequences.

He also reaffirmed Jordan's rejection of attacks on the territory and sovereignty of Arab states and of any interference in Arab affairs.

Regarding Jordanian contributions and initiatives aimed at addressing the humanitarian and legal consequences of wars under the current circumstances and strengthening mechanisms to protect civilians, Adailah said the Kingdom had proposed hosting a high-level international conference on the initiative to strengthen political commitment to international humanitarian law during the final quarter of this year.

The initiative has received the support and endorsement of Arab member states, which also commended Jordan's continued role in regional and international forums in promoting states' collective commitment to respect international humanitarian law and coordinate efforts to protect civilians from wars and armed conflicts.

The meeting of Arab League permanent representatives is part of preparations for the council's ministerial-level meeting. It is also intended to discuss items on the session's agenda and submit recommendations and draft resolutions to foreign ministers, whose meeting is scheduled for Monday as part of the council's regular 166th session.
