Amman, Oct 15 (Petra) - The Jordan Red Crescent (JRC) held talks on Tuesday with a delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and South Korea’s Ewha Womans University to strengthen cooperation under the "Peace and Water" initiative, which seeks to turn Jordan’s water scarcity challenge into an engine for peacebuilding, resilience, and sustainable development.

JRC President Mohammad Al-Hadid said the project embodies a forward-looking approach to addressing one of Jordan’s most pressing resource constraints through cross-sectoral partnerships that merge humanitarian, environmental, and community-development goals.

The meeting was attended by Christian Cortés, Deputy Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for MENA, and Atta Durani, Head of the IFRC Delegation in Jordan.

During their visit, the delegation met officials at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, including the Assistant Secretary-General for Water Affairs, to explore ways to align the initiative with national water strategies and identify areas for technical cooperation.

The team also visited Yarmouk Water Company to discuss operational challenges, service-delivery gaps, and potential project interventions that could improve efficiency and ease water stress in northern Jordan. The field visit included a stop at the Juhfiyah Water Pumping Station in Irbid, one of the targeted sites under the project.

The mission concluded with a community outreach session organized by the Jordan Red Crescent to promote water conservation practices and encourage positive behavioral change among residents an integral part of efforts to mitigate social tensions linked to resource scarcity.
