Amman, Oct. 26 (Petra) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Monday decried far-right Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and a group of settlers for storming Al-Aqsa Mosque under police escort.
Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali described the intrusion as a "blatant violation" of international law and international humanitarian law, an "unacceptable escalation," and a "flagrant infringement" on the historic and legal status quo of the holy site.
Majali voiced Jordan’s rejection of repeated incursions by Israeli officials and settlers, warning against attempts to alter the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque by dividing it temporally or spatially. He added that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Calling on the international community to take a stance, Majali urged global powers to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its illegal practices, stop restricting worshipers' access, and respect international law.
He said that the entire 144-dunam Al-Aqsa Mosque complex is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, maintained solely under the legal authority of the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, administered by Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf.
