Amman, Mar. 13 (Petra)-- Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, on Thursday held talks in Damascus with Head of the Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Ports Qutaiba Badawi on several economic and trade issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance trade exchange between Jordan and Syria, stressing their commitment to facilitating the entry of goods and products between the two countries and ensuring smooth transit through flexible procedures that support commercial activity.
They also agreed to facilitate the passage of Jordanian trucks to Syrian ports to carry out loading and unloading operations, as well as allow Syrian trucks to access Port of Aqaba for the same purpose. The move aims to strengthen integration in the transport and logistics sectors and open broader prospects for regional trade.
The two sides also discussed the current regional conditions and the challenges they pose to transportation and trade.
They agreed to allow Jordanian trucks carrying goods of Jordanian origin only to enter Syrian territory, while Syrian trucks carrying goods of Syrian origin only will be permitted to enter Jordan without conducting cargo transfers at the border. The step is intended to facilitate the movement of goods and accelerate their delivery to markets.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of leveraging the strategic geographic location of the two countries and developing mechanisms of cooperation to transform them into regional hubs for cargo consolidation and re-export to Gulf and European markets. This, they said, would enhance trade activity and stimulate the transport and logistics sectors.
They also agreed to maintain close coordination to address the impact of regional developments on trade movement and supply chains, ensuring the smooth flow of goods, securing market needs, and facilitating import and export operations in accordance with the regulations and procedures in both countries.
