Amman, Jan. 12 (Petra) -- The Department of the Chief Justice on Monday hosted a Syrian judicial team led by Minister of Justice Mazhar Al-Wais, who are on an official visit for a first-hand look at Jordan’s Sharia judiciary expertise and to explore enhancing cooperation between the two countries in this field.

The delegation was received by President of the Higher Sharia Court, Sheikh Kamal Smadi and senior judges and officials at a meeting to discuss ways and means of developing Sharia judicial work and strengthening institutional coordination between the two countries, the department said in a statement.

The visit reflects the deep, brotherly and historical relations between Jordan and Syria, as well as shared religious, geographic, and common destiny bonds, Smadi said.

He referred to His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives to support brotherly countries and bolster cooperation, particularly in judicial and legal fields.

The Syrian minister said his country recognized Jordan’s Sharia judiciary expertise, affirming his country’s willingness to benefit from the Kingdom's model for the reconstruction and development of its Sharia judicial system, particularly family protection, capacity building, and exchange of expertise, leading to effective partnerships in the near future.

Director of Sharia Courts Samih Zoubi gave an overview of institutional development paths in Jordan’s Sharia judiciary, including administrative restructuring, digital transformation, electronic services, family reform programs, and community awareness initiatives.

He highlighted key digital transformation projects, e-services, the Alimony Loan Fund, and the establishment of specialized units to address family disputes through judicial and awareness-based approaches.

Member of the Supreme Sharia Court and Director of the Technical Office Mansour Tawalbeh outlined the legislative framework governing Sharia judiciary work in Jordan, its core principles, and the role of the Technical Office in disseminating judicial principles and legal awareness to enrich judicial practice and legal research, serving as a reference for judges, lawyers, legal professionals, and researchers to achieve the highest standards of fair trial.

For his part, First Sharia Judge of Damascus Ahmed Hamadeh stressed Syria’s commitment to building an independent and fair Sharia judiciary and to benefiting from Jordan’s expertise in this field.
