Amman, Feb. 2 (Petra) -- The Jordan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and Syrian Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday to enhance cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, information technology, and postal services.

According to a TRC statement, Chairperson Lara Al-Khatib said the MoU underlines a commitment by both sides to developing telecommunications, IT, and postal sectors in line with global standards to serve the interests of both peoples.

Mohamad Atef Al Dairy, Director-General of Syrian Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority, described the MoU as a strategic step to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise, which will contribute to developing digital infrastructure and achieving sustainable economic and social development.

The agreement covers multiple areas, including coordination on frequency spectrum usage in border regions to reduce interference, updating related coordination agreements, exchanging expertise in type approvals and regulating telecommunications devices, and cooperation in postal services and parcel delivery.

It also focuses on enforcement and compliance to ensure a safe and regulated communications environment, improving service quality to meet user satisfaction, and protecting consumer rights in telecommunications services.

The MoU further entails technical cooperation in ICT, knowledge exchange on digital transformation for social sustainability and economic development, coordination in international and regional forums, and field visits and workshops to share best practices in IT and communications through the International Telecommunication Union’s certified training center.

It also emphasizes cooperation in cybersecurity, including exchanging expertise and best practices to prevent illegal use and protect internet networks in accordance with national legislation.
