Amman, May 3 (Petra) -- The Jordan Free and Development Zones Group is preparing to launch three major tourism projects at the Dead Sea in conjunction with Jordan’s Independence Day celebrations (May 25), marking a qualitative shift in the development of one of the world’s most prominent tourism destinations.
In a statement on Sunday, the group said the projects, which are the Dead Sea Corniche, the Dead Sea Tourist Beach, and the Dead Sea Walkway, mark the start of a new phase aimed at redefining the visitor experience and transforming the Dead Sea into an integrated year-round entertainment and tourism hub.
The launch will coincide with major national events along the Corniche, walkway, and beach, in a festive atmosphere reflecting the spirit of independence and combining entertainment, culture, and national identity, the group added.
Chairman of the group, Sakher Ajlouni, said the Dead Sea Corniche project is a key pillar in the region’s tourism transformation, going beyond the concept of a traditional promenade to offer an integrated model for an open-air entertainment destination extending 1.1 kilometers and combining visual appeal with a comprehensive interactive experience.
Ajlouni said the project features a modern, open urban design that includes walking paths, seating areas overlooking the sea, and innovative photo spots carefully designed to align with digital content trends and enhance the site’s presence on social media platforms.
The Corniche also includes a multipurpose outdoor theater that will serve as a permanent venue for concerts, national performances, and cultural festivals, ensuring year-round tourism activity and vitality.
Ajlouni said the project offers around 30 diverse investment opportunities, including restaurants, cafes, and innovative entertainment ventures, making it a promising business platform that supports the local economy and attracts high-quality investment.
He noted that the project was designed as a major draw for investors, strengthening the Dead Sea’s position as an integrated tourism destination and elevating the Corniche to a level comparable with leading waterfronts worldwide.
Ajlouni said the Dead Sea Tourist Beach has been developed to become the largest organized family recreational outlet in the area, offering a full-day experience rather than a brief visit.
The beach covers around 240 dunums, providing spacious areas that allow comfortable visitor distribution away from overcrowding and giving families privacy and adequate space to relax. It has a capacity of more than 4,500 visitors.
The project includes an integrated tourist restaurant with a capacity of 300 people, serving not only as a dining facility but also as a key attraction capable of hosting various events and occasions.
The beach also provides integrated service and entertainment facilities, including swimming pools, modern shower units, umbrellas, family seating areas, and recreational services.
Ajlouni said the Dead Sea Walkway project includes the construction of 20 kiosks distributed in an organized manner to curb random practices and improve the overall visual landscape.
The 4-kilometer walkway has been equipped with all services, sanitation facilities, seating areas, and green spaces to serve visitors to Parking Beach A and Parking Beach B.
Ajlouni said the projects will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs and involve the local community in their operation and management, enhancing their economic and social impact.
He added that the step will help increase the length of stay of foreign tourists and attract new tourist segments, benefiting from the Dead Sea’s status as one of the world’s leading natural wonders and a global destination for medical and wellness tourism.
Ajlouni said nominal entry fees will be charged as part of efforts to provide high-quality services and ensure a comfortable and safe experience for all visitors.
