Jordan to make 25th appearance at Mini Basket International Tournament in Italy

Amman, June 10 (Petra) – Jordan is participating for the 25th time in the Mini Basket International Tournament, one of Europe's most prestigious youth basketball events, scheduled to take place in the Italian city of Matera from June 22 to 28.

The tournament's 34th edition would feature 48 teams from 11 countries, bringing together young talents from across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America in a highly competitive environment focused on player development and international exposure.

Jordan's participation reflects the Kingdom's long-standing presence in the tournament since its debut in 1989 under the name Al Jazeera Aramex.

In 2026, the Jordanian delegation is competing under the banner of the city of Amman, with support from players' families and several national companies.

The Jordanian delegation is headed by Fadi Sabah and includes players Amir Abu Seneina, Alex Nino, Karim Qudah, Peter Faqas, Michel Hallaq, Qais Ghousheh, Yousef Zghloul, Salem Haddad, Rashed Abu Sheikha and Tim Yard.

The team is coached by Yousef Faqas, with Suhaib Farash serving as assistant coach.

The squad has undergone an intensive preparation programme aimed at maximising the players' readiness and ensuring a strong representation of Jordan at the international event.

During the tournament, the team is scheduled to play seven matches as part of a competitive programme designed to enhance technical and physical skills while providing valuable international experience against teams from around the world.

Jordan's participation carries added significance as the tournament is being held in Matera, a city twinned with Petra through cultural and heritage partnerships.

The event offers players not only a chance to compete at a high level but an opportunity to engage with different cultures and broaden their international outlook.

The team concluded its preparations by winning a friendly championship organised by the Sam Douglas Academy, a result that reflects the players' strong technical and mental readiness ahead of their trip to Italy.

The participation forms part of ongoing efforts to support and develop youth basketball in Jordan and provide emerging talents with international exposure, helping build a strong foundation for the future of the sport in the Kingdom.
