Petra, Nov. 13 (Petra) -- Hikers explored a 15.3-kilometer segment of the Jordan Trail this week, traversing the rugged valleys of Wadi Quseib, the Colored Canyon, and Wadi Aheimer in eastern Wadi Araba, southwest of Petra.

The challenging route, which takes five to six hours to complete, offers participants a mix of rocky valleys and sandy slopes, showcasing the region’s natural beauty and adventure tourism potential.

The hike, organized by the Jordan Trail Association from November 10 to 19, brought together eco-tourism enthusiasts from several countries, alongside local officials and representatives from Petra’s tourism authorities.

Dr. Fares Breizat, Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, joined the event, accompanied by other Authority officials. Ali Barqawi, Director General of the Jordan Trail Association, also participated.

Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to link Petra’s cultural heritage with surrounding natural landscapes, promoting sustainable tourism and supporting local communities.

The Petra Authority has recently launched several new trails across the region, including Khurma, the Dark Valley Trail between Dlagha and Masoudah, and Al-Madras to Arqoub Jumaian, to diversify tourism offerings and ensure equitable economic benefits across local communities.

Barqawi emphasized that the trail provides visitors with a safe and immersive experience, highlighting Petra’s blend of natural and archaeological treasures.

The Jordan Trail, stretching from Umm Qais in the north to Aqaba in the south, remains one of Jordan’s flagship eco-adventure projects, combining cultural heritage with scenic landscapes across the kingdom.
