Jordan, UAE push to expand trade, boost economic partnership

Amman, May 5 (Petra) -- Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah called Tuesday for intensified efforts to increase trade volume between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by removing trade barriers and enhancing the flow of goods and services to support economic growth in both countries.

In a meeting with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber on the sidelines of the "Make it in the Emirates" event, Qudah and Al Jaber discussed advancing economic ties to more integrated levels, boosting Jordanian exports and strengthening their presence in the UAE market while supporting balanced trade.

Qudah said the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), signed on October 6, 2024, and entering into force on May 15, 2025, represents a key driver for trade, offering preferential advantages and facilitation measures to stimulate commerce and increase mutual investment.

He urged activating the Jordan-UAE Investment Council to enhance coordination and support the private sector.

Qudah called for strengthening engagement between business communities through increased exchange of trade delegations, participation in exhibitions and economic conferences and joint events to promote national products and open new markets, in addition to leveraging Jordan's network of free trade agreements to access regional and global markets.

Al Jaber, in turn, said that the UAE priotitises strengthening trade relations with Jordan, adding that the CEPA provides a strategic platform to expand trade, particularly by supporting private sector partnerships and facilitating the movement of goods and services.

He added that the UAE is developing practical mechanisms to boost trade by encouraging Emirati companies to explore opportunities in Jordan and deepen cooperation with Jordanian firms to build sustainable partnerships.

He said joint efforts would intensify in the coming period to drive trade growth and further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
