Amman, May 5 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) to strengthen cooperation in innovation and technology and expand investment partnerships between Jordan and the United States.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat during an official visit to the United States on the sidelines of the SelectUSA Investment Summit, according to a ministry statement released on Tuesday.
The partnership aligns with Jordan’s strategic efforts to broaden international technology ties, support the local innovation ecosystem, and solidify the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for information technology services.
Under the memorandum, both parties aim to stimulate investment flows and build bridges between startups in both nations. The agreement seeks to grant Jordanian companies greater access to U.S. markets while promoting Jordan as a preferred destination for international firms looking to expand into the Middle East and North Africa.
The agreement specifically supports the "Jordan Source" program, a ministry-led initiative under the Economic Modernization Vision. Jordan Source promotes the Kingdom as a global destination for high-value digital outsourcing and IT services, leveraging Jordan’s skilled workforce, digital infrastructure, and strategic location.
Collaborative activities outlined in the pact include organizing trade missions for investment delegations to visit Jordan, hosting joint events, and facilitating Jordan Source’s participation in the TEDCO Expo. The two sides also plan to exchange technical expertise and knowledge to further develop the Jordanian innovation landscape.
The signing follows a joint seminar held earlier this year in collaboration with the World Trade Institute and the University System of Maryland, which facilitated initial networking between Jordanian and American firms.
Smeirat stated that the memorandum represents a practical step toward translating mutual interests into tangible programs that benefit investors and companies alike, cementing Jordan’s status as a regional technology leader.
