Cairo, Nov. 26 (Petra) - Jordan won two Arab Media Excellence Awards during the 55th session of the Arab Media Ministers Council, held Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, with participation from Zaid Nawaiseh, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Government Communication.
The opening session saw Bahrain hand over the presidency of the previous session to Syria, the current chair of the 55th regular session.
During the ceremony, Arab League Secretary-General honored Alaa Al-Zyoud, Media Advisor at Jordan’s Permanent Mission to the Arab League, for his efforts in strengthening Arab media and fostering regional media cooperation.
Ad-Dustour newspaper received the award for Best Opinion Column in the journalistic articles category, presented to Editor-in-Chief Mustafa Ryalat.
Al-Zyoud told Petra that the recognition reflects the success and active presence of Jordanian media in Arab forums and highlights the contributions of Jordanian journalists. He noted that the award serves as motivation for continued high-quality media work and for enhancing journalists’ capabilities amid the sector’s rapid development.
Ryalat described the honor as a testament to the long-standing dedication of Ad-Dustour’s team to professional excellence and creativity, emphasizing the award’s role in encouraging objective, public-focused journalism and aligning with media digitization efforts discussed at the council meeting, which are expected to shape Arab media work in the future.
Established in 2016 by the Arab Information Ministers Council, the Arab Media Excellence Award aims to promote outstanding performance among journalists and media institutions, develop investigative and specialized skills, and highlight the role of Arab media in contemporary issues.
