Riyadh, April 16 (Petra) -- Jordanian academic Mohammad Waheeb Hussein of the Hashemite University has been awarded the King Faisal Prize for Islamic Studies in its 48th edition, in recognition of his research on trade routes in the Islamic world.

The award was announced on Thursday by the General Secretariat of the King Faisal Prize, which highlighted the scientific value and originality of Waheeb’s work, noting its reliance on field-based archaeological surveys supported by precise GPS documentation and detailed analytical mapping.

The committee said his methodology combined textual analysis with geographical and field data, offering a balanced academic interpretation of early trade routes in the Islamic world, including the historical context of Quraysh trade routes.

The research was described as a significant contribution to the documentation of early trade networks in the Arabian Peninsula.

The King Faisal Prize has been awarded annually since 1977 by the King Faisal Foundation, recognizing achievements across five categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science.
