Amman, Feb. 10 (Petra) -- A Jordanian economic delegation will begin a two-day working visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Wednesday, with the aim of deepening economic cooperation, exploring available investment opportunities in Syria, and promoting Jordan’s key investment projects.

The visit is organized by the Jordan Businessmen Association (JBA) in partnership with the Syrian Businessmen and Businesswomen Association and includes the convening of a joint investment forum, held within the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in 2009.

The forum will bring together investors, business leaders, and company representatives from both countries and will feature an expanded working session focused on presenting investment opportunities in Syria, enhancing coordination between economic legislation, and highlighting Jordan’s position as a pivotal economic and logistics hub for the Syrian market.

Discussions are expected to concentrate on structuring avenues for joint investment, particularly in light of Syria’s ongoing economic initiatives and its focus on strategic sectors aimed at boosting economic integration and supporting reconstruction efforts. The forum seeks to establish a sustainable and long-term investment bridge that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

In addition to panel discussions, the forum will include bilateral business meetings between companies and entrepreneurs from Jordan and Syria, providing a platform for exchanging information on trade and investment cooperation, strengthening relations, and building partnerships based on shared economic interests.

Ayman Alawneh, JBA President, stressed the importance of the delegation’s visit and the accompanying forum in advancing economic relations between the two countries and capitalizing on the wide range of trade and investment opportunities available across several strategic sectors.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Alawneh said the association is keen to intensify efforts to promote major projects that Jordan plans to implement in promising and vital sectors, while attracting investors to participate in these projects in line with the private sector’s role under the Economic Modernization Vision.

Alawneh, who heads the delegation of more than 30 business leaders representing commercial, service, and industrial sectors, noted that both countries possess diverse trade and investment opportunities that can be leveraged to further develop economic relations, particularly in reconstruction-related projects.

The delegation includes representatives from the contracting and construction, transport, logistics, education, energy, water, general trade, agriculture, tourism and travel, industry, finance and banking, information technology, and free, development, and industrial zones sectors.
