Jordanian Duty-Free Border Outlets Key Driver of National Economy, Says Chair

Mafraq, Jan 7 (Petra) - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Duty Free Shops (JDFS), Kholoud Saqqaf, said on Wednesday that developing border duty-free outlets represents a real driver for the national economy.

During an inspection visit to the duty-free shops at the Jaber border crossing, Saqqaf, accompanied by a number of JDFS department directors, reviewed workflow operations, as well as operational and commercial aspects, service procedures for travelers and visitors, facility readiness, service quality, and adopted working mechanisms.

She said the current board of directors has adopted a strategy aimed at improving and enhancing the shopping experience, modernizing display methods, and raising operational efficiency, in line with global best practices in the duty-free sector.

Saqqaf stressed that the duty-free outlet at the Jaber crossing is a strategically pivotal site within the company’s network of outlets across land and sea crossings, given its vital role in serving passenger traffic and stimulating cross-border trade.

She underscored the importance of upgrading duty-free infrastructure and diversifying the range of products offered to meet the needs of different tastes and nationalities in a way that enhances the regional competitiveness of Jordanian duty-free shops.

Saqqaf said JDFS plays a clear role in supporting the national economy, which necessitates continued focus on its development, care and preservation. She added that attention to this sector aligns with Royal directives to support key economic sectors in order to achieve sustainable development in Jordan.

She expressed appreciation for the efforts of staff working at the Jaber duty-free outlet, noting that human resources constitute the cornerstone of improved performance and the achievement of company objectives.

Saqqaf also thanked the security, customs and administrative authorities at the Jaber border for their positive cooperation, saying this integration represents a success factor that reflects a positive image of coordinated national work.
