Jordanian fans hail historic World Cup debut as milestone for national football

Amman, June 23 (Petra) -- Jordanian sports fans said the national football team, the "Nashama," wrote a bright new chapter in the country's sporting history through their debut appearance at the 2026 World Cup, raising the kingdom's flag at the world's premier football tournament.

Supporters noted that both the players and traveling fans served as exemplary ambassadors for their nation. They emphasized that reaching the World Cup finals was a historic national achievement in its own right, presenting a civilized image that reflected Jordanian values and ethics while boosting the country's global tourism and cultural profile.

Citizens speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) agreed that the team's participation in the World Cup would remain a defining milestone for Jordanian sports. They emphasized that the national and morale gains achieved transcended individual match results, solidifying Jordan's presence among the world's elite football nations and paving the way for future athletic successes.

Fouad Al-Khalidi, a local fan, said that competing in the World Cup and facing major global teams was a source of immense pride, noting that the players gave their maximum effort and earned the respect of observers both on and off the pitch. He added that the Jordanian fans who attended the matches demonstrated high responsibility, offering a striking and civilized display of support that reflected the authenticity of Jordanians and their unity behind the national team.

In similar remarks, Mohammad Al-Khawaldeh, another local fan, stated that match results do not capture the true value of the participation. He pointed out that the team successfully projected Jordan's name globally and helped introduce the kingdom's culture through its presence at the world's largest football event. Al-Khawaldeh emphasized that the hallmark of the Jordanian campaign was the sportsmanship and discipline shown by both fans and players, which cast a positive light on the country.

Maimouna Al-Salamin, a local female supporter, said the national team provided Jordanians with exceptional, unforgettable moments. She regarded the World Cup qualification not merely as an athletic milestone but as a national occasion that united Jordanians at home and abroad. She added that the players were excellent ambassadors, noting that the Jordanian flags flying in the stands and the cultural events organized by Jordanian expatriate communities in American cities significantly promoted Jordan and highlighted its cultural identity to the world.
