Jordanian Official Elected Vice President of International Fisheries Cooperative Alliance

Amman, Sept. 17 (Petra) -- Abdul Fattah Shalabi, Director General of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation (JCC), was elected vice president of the International Cooperative Fisheries Organization (IFCO) for 2026-2030, during the International Cooperative Alliance's (ICA) general assembly and world congress in Panama City.

The election follows Shalabi's appointment in November to the ICA's Asia-Pacific board for 2025-2029, making him the first Arab to hold that position since the alliance's founding in 1960.

Shalabi said Thursday the position strengthens the standing of Jordan's cooperative movement internationally, crediting the achievement to sustained efforts under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership.

He called the election a source of pride for Jordan's cooperative movement, which, he said, has built a global presence over the past five years. He pledged continued work to serve Jordanian and global cooperatives.

The IFCO is a sectoral organization under the ICA, established in the 1970s to develop fisheries cooperatives worldwide and support fishermen's economic and social interests.
