Jordanian, Syrian MPs meet in Istanbul

Amman, April 18 (Petra) – First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House, Khamis Atieh, met on Saturday with head of the Syrian parliamentary delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in Istanbul, Saadi Sukkarieh, on the sidelines of the meetings.
Atieh, who heads the Jordanian parliamentary delegation, said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, endeavors towards the security and stability of the Syrian state and securing its borders to serve the interests of the two countries.
"Jordan stands with the brotherly Syrian people and their leadership, and is ready to offer expertise in various fields to rebuild the Syrian state and serve its people," Atieh said. He urged Syrian authorities to secure borders and stop drug smuggling.
Maysoun Qawabah, Assistant Speaker of the Lower House, said Jordanian-Syrian relations are solid, calling for removing trade barriers and coordinating in anti-drug efforts.
MP Salem Omari expressed pride in the deep-rooted brotherly relations with Syria, expressing Jordan's support for reconstruction in Syria.
He said Damascus is confidently moving towards rebuilding, and that Jordan stands by its side to promote regional stability and open new horizons for integration between the two countries.
The head of the Syrian delegation noted the deep relations with Jordan, adding that his country seeks to benefit from the Kingdom's expertise in education, health and security fields.
