Jerash, July 25 (Petra) -- The Jordan Tour Guides Association (JTGA) welcomed a decision by the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts to include its members from Jerash Governorate in the festival's activities for the first time during its 40th edition, saying the move strengthens the link between the event's cultural dimension and the historical and archaeological significance of the ancient city.

JTGA President Ayman Omar told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that involving local tourist guides in the festival for the first time is a pioneering step that reflects an appreciation of the role guides play in introducing visitors to the history of the archaeological city and highlighting its cultural significance.

He said the initiative would make the festival experience richer and more meaningful by adding a knowledge-based dimension alongside its artistic and cultural programs.

Omar added that the initiative comes at a particularly important time, as inbound tourism has declined in recent months due to regional developments. He said the move provides an opportunity to benefit from the expertise of local tourist guides, supports domestic tourism, promotes Jordan's archaeological sites, and underscores the importance of investing in national expertise to strengthen the tourism sector under all circumstances.

Mahmoud Bani Mustafa, head of the Tour Guides Committee in Jerash, said the participation of guides from the governorate offers an opportunity to present the documented historical narrative of the ancient city professionally and introduce visitors to the stories behind its archaeological landmarks and cultural heritage.

He said the initiative transforms a visit to the festival into a comprehensive experience that combines culture, art, and history while reinforcing Jerash's position as a year-round cultural and tourism destination.
