Amman, June 17 (Petra) -- Public viewing sites and fan gathering areas organized by the Ministry of Youth were filled with pride and admiration following Jordan’s opening match against Austria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as supporters praised the national team’s performance and fighting spirit during its historic first appearance at the tournament.

The Jordan News Agency (Petra) gathered reactions from fans, who said the national team had successfully presented a positive image of Jordanian football and that participation in the world’s biggest sporting event marks an important milestone in the development of Jordanian sports.

Engineer Fouad Al-Khalidi said the national team displayed a well-organized performance against Austria, noting that the players approached the match with clear focus and discipline. He added that their display reflected the technical progress achieved by Jordanian football and earned widespread appreciation from supporters.

Ali Al-Shamaileh, who watched the match with his family, said the enthusiastic atmosphere among fans reflected the strong public support for the national team. Retiree Abdullah Al-Majali described Jordan’s participation in the World Cup finals as a national achievement that adds to the country’s sporting record. University student Mohammad Sayyah said participation in the World Cup provides a major source of inspiration for younger generations to pursue football and strive for greater achievements. He noted that Jordan’s presence on the global stage demonstrates that hard work and determination can lead to the highest levels of success.

Similarly, university student Shaher Al-Amoush said the team’s performance against Austria demonstrated strong character and competitiveness. He added that the next stage requires maintaining focus and making the most of this global experience to further strengthen Jordanian football’s standing.

Aisha Al-Salehi, a homemaker, said watching the national team in the World Cup brought feelings of pride and joy to Jordanians. She praised the players’ enthusiasm and determination to give their best, emphasizing that supporters would continue to stand behind the team in the upcoming matches.

Waseem Haddad, managing director of an engineering company, said Jordan’s participation in the World Cup has projected a bright image of the Kingdom to the world.
