Amman, Oct. 19 (Petra) – The Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in cooperation with the Institute of Local Administration at the Ministry of Local Administration, launched on Sunday the first phase of a training project for municipal employees.
The initiative is part of a broader project to install solar energy systems in municipalities across the Kingdom, funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. The training program, which began at the Greater Irbid Municipality headquarters, will run for six months and benefit 500 municipal employees.
Fatima Nasser, from JREEEF, said the program encompasses all municipalities in Jordan and aims to enhance the administrative and technical competencies of municipal staff in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable development. She explained that the training seeks to ensure the long-term sustainability of photovoltaic systems installed on municipal buildings, thereby reducing carbon emissions and achieving energy savings.
Yousef Maabreh, from JREEEF, noted that the initiative also aims to raise awareness of renewable energy benefits, provide municipalities with expertise in energy efficiency, and introduce viable economic and environmental solutions. He added that the project supports local development and contributes to creating new job opportunities within the energy sector.
Director of the Institute of Local Administration Alaa Tahla said the training program represents the first package of a comprehensive capacity-building plan for municipal employees. She commended the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for preparing specialized training materials aligned with municipal needs and for its role in improving employee efficiency.
Tahla added that the Institute is committed to strengthening employee capabilities through partnerships with experts and specialists to ensure high-quality training outcomes tailored to municipal requirements.
The initial training package covers project management, green financing, and communication, and is delivered by trainers from the Green Technology Company for Sustainable Development.
JREEEF has completed the first phase of the solar photovoltaic installation project for municipalities at a cost of JD460,000, involving 29 systems with a total capacity of 650 kilowatts. This phase is expected to save municipalities approximately JD198,000 annually in electricity costs.
