Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) -- A volunteer medical day was held on Wednesday at the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Balqa Governorate, during which 36 children with hearing impairment were fitted with advanced medical hearing aids featuring the latest hearing-technology innovations.
The event was organized by the Jordan University Hospital, in cooperation with the Jordan University of Science and Technology, and with support from the Swiss Hear the World Foundation. It also included free hearing and speech screenings for members of the local community in Balqa, as part of health awareness, early detection of hearing and speech disorders, and broadening the community benefit of the initiative.
The initiative was implemented by a multidisciplinary team of hearing and speech physicians and technicians from Jordan University Hospital, the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Jordan’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Hearing and Speech Department at JUST. The effort also involved medical interns and medical students interested in otolaryngology (ENT), aiming to strengthen community-based healthcare and support children and their families.
Jordan University Hospital Director General Dr. Nader Al-Bsoul said the event reflects the hospital’s commitment to delivering specialized pediatric services and ensuring the highest standards of quality and care. He praised the support of Hear the World Foundation, noting its direct impact on improving beneficiaries’ quality of life and enhancing their ability to integrate into society.
Project Leader for Hear the World Foundation and the hospital’s audiology consultant Margaret Zuriekat said the initiative goes beyond fitting devices, providing comprehensive, high-standard hearing and speech care. She added that the hospital and the organization will continue the project to expand access to hearing support for a larger number of children across Jordan’s governorates.
Sandy Al-Labad, Head of the Hearing Department at the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the advanced devices will make a tangible difference in the children’s lives and help develop their auditory and communication skills.
