Karak, Jan 4 (Petra) - Karak Governor Qabalan Al-Sharif emphasized that field coordination among various state institutions is a key pillar in ensuring citizen safety and protecting national assets and infrastructure in the governorate.
In a statement on Sunday, Al-Sharif praised the role of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in supporting Karak municipalities, particularly in Iraq Village and areas of Al-Mazar Al-Janoubi District. High-level coordination between the Interior Ministry, Public Works Ministry, Local Administration Ministry, and security agencies enabled field teams to address hotspots and secure vital roads efficiently.
Al-Sharif explained that field tours and technical reports prepared by a joint committee including directors from Public Works, the governorate, municipalities, and representatives from Public Security and Civil Defense revealed previous organizational errors that diverted natural watercourse paths.
He stressed the need for firm measures to stop encroachments on valleys, which pose serious risks to water flow and the safety of nearby homes, following street erosion and diverted water toward residential areas. Immediate preparations for a comprehensive drainage plan for the region were ordered to resolve historic water runoff challenges, alongside completing dirt road rehabilitation and connecting them to the main network using suitably engineered culverts.
Al-Sharif noted that precise technical inspections in several areas across the governorate demonstrated the effectiveness of interventions carried out by Public Works staff. A joint committee from the Ministries of Public Works and Local Administration will begin Monday to investigate the causes of recent collapses and submit technical recommendations for all sites in the governorate.
Al-Sharif highlighted the importance of teamwork among service and security personnel to ensure the continuity of roads and the safety of residents in mountainous and sloped areas, aiming to provide the best services to citizens and develop public facilities with the highest standards of safety and quality.
