King attends opening session of Jordan-United Kingdom Business Forum

London, July 23 (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday attended the opening session of the Jordan-United Kingdom Business Forum in London, which was attended by business leaders and representatives of various sectors from both countries.

The forum, which brings together more than 40 Jordanian and 60 British companies representing a wide range of sectors, aims to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation across various commercial, industrial, and service sectors, and to highlight Jordan’s investment opportunities and advantages in order to help boost the volume of trade and establish long-term strategic commercial and industrial partnerships between Jordanian and British companies. Addressing the opening session, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah positioned Jordan as a reliable destination for investment, highlighting the Jordanian economy’s steady growth and resilience despite regional challenges, crediting the Kingdom’s stable fiscal policies and diverse free trade agreements.

Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh showcased Jordan’s robust economic indicators and favourable business environment, emphasising the investment incentives offered in development and industrial zones, where cumulative investments have reached 9.1 billion dollars.

Abu Ghazaleh also highlighted investment opportunities across various sectors including infrastructure and transport, sustainable energy, food processing, fertilisers and chemicals, mining, telecommunications, and information technology.

President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir underscored the need to upgrade Jordan-UK economic relations to a comprehensive economic partnership, to develop strategic relations, drive added value, and boost the competitiveness of priority sectors in both countries.

For his part, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Michael Mainelli acknowledged the strong competitiveness of Jordanian industries, noting that the forum serves as an important platform for UK and Jordanian private sector representatives to pursue new trade collaborations and build partnerships that maximise the advantages of Jordan’s industrial sector.

Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Stephen Doughty said in his remarks that the governments of both countries are committed to eliminating hurdles facing Jordanian and British private-sector companies and organisations to enable them to build successful, multi-sector partnerships, emphasising the importance of strengthening UK-Jordan cooperation.

The opening session was attended by Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Jordan’s Ambassador to the UK Manar Dabbas, and representatives of Jordanian and British companies operating in a variety of sectors.
