King, China president witness signing of agreements, MoUs

King, China president witness signing of agreements, MoUs

Beijing, Aug. 24 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II and China President Xi Jinping, in Beijing on Monday, witnessed the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the governments of Jordan and China across several fields, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II and Princess Salma bint Abdullah II.

The two countries signed an MoU between the Jordanian and Chinese Ministries of Justice on legal and judicial cooperation, with a view to promoting the exchange of expertise on the legal and judicial systems of both countries through training programmes, courses, and lectures on current legal and judicial issues and latest theories and established training curricula.

An MoU was also signed in the field of e-commerce between the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, to encourage cooperation in e-commerce by enhancing information exchange on laws and regulations, conducting joint research and training, supporting small to medium enterprise trade and digital services, and mechanisms to facilitate e-commerce.

An MoU was also signed between the Jordanian Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and China’s National Data Administration in the field of digital economy, to enhance policy coordination and regulatory harmonisation, strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the digital sector, and promote practical and effective collaboration in digital infrastructure, and the exchange of digital skills.

In addition, an MoU was signed between the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the Chinese Film Administration to strengthen cooperation in the film industry and foster collaboration among filmmakers, implement and encourage film co-productions, particularly with regard to highlighting cultural diversity and film industry education.

The two countries signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement, providing a grant worth an estimated 14.7 million dollars, earmarked for humanitarian assistance and development cooperation projects, in addition to an MoU between Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the China International Development Cooperation Agency, under which the Chinese Government will provide 800 training opportunities to the Jordanian Government this year, including multilateral training programmes and workshops.

The MoUs signed in the presence of His Majesty and the Chinese president included an MoU on cooperation in the field of civil aviation, for joint development of the ‘Air Silk Road’ with the aim of improving air links, thereby encouraging exchanges between the two peoples in the economic, commercial, and social spheres, and enhancing the quality of the civil aviation sector in both countries, and to support the development of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The signing also included an MoU in the field of industrial and supply chains, to establish a platform for communication and coordination between relevant bodies and to encourage economic cooperation with a view to achieving mutual benefits, shared development goals, economic growth, and the creation of employment opportunities.

The King and the Chinese president also witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation between the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and the China Foreign Affairs University, to facilitate exchanges of visiting scholars, student exchange programmes and related visits, and to jointly organise academic symposia on topics of mutual interest.

Moreover, an MoU between the Jordan Tourism Board and China Media Group was signed, to strengthen cooperation in promoting tourism through the media and communication initiatives, including the broadcasting of promotional content and collaboration on tourism campaigns, and to highlight the tourism, cultural, and heritage assets of both countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, and Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat took part in the signing ceremony.

Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Jordan’s Ambassador to China Hussam Husseini, and China’s Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei attended the signing ceremony.

On the sidelines of His Majesty’s visit, the governments of the two countries also signed cooperation agreements and MoUs in various fields, including a protocol between the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture and the General Administration of Customs of China regarding quarantine and veterinary health requirements for sheepskin exports, an MoU on cooperation between the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and the China Media Group, an MoU on cooperation between the Jordan News Agency (Petra) and the China Media Group, an MoU on cooperation in the field of science and technology between the Higher Council for Science and Technology in Jordan and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, an MoU on cooperation in the field of mineral resources between Jordan and China, and a letter of intent between Jordan and China in the field of social affairs.

Furthermore, the two governments also signed an agreement between the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and the China National Radio and Television Administration, an MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Government Communication in Jordan and the China Media Group in the field of media and communication, an MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Government Communication and Xinhua News Agency, an MoU on cooperation in the fields of environment and climate change, an MoU in the field of energy, an MoU on cooperation between the Royal Film Commission in Jordan and the China Media Group, an MoU on cooperation between the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and an MoU on cooperation in the field of animal and plant quarantine upon entry and exit between Jordan and China.

Royal Jordanian Airlines also signed an MoU with Air China with the aim of strengthening and developing the partnership between Jordan and China in the field of air transport, and broadening the scope of commercial and operational cooperation, including the launch and operation of new routes.
