Jakarta, Nov. 14 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II and Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto held talks on Friday at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, focusing on the strong ties between the two countries, and the latest developments in the Middle East.

His Majesty emphasized the depth of Jordanian-Indonesian relations, which span over 75 years, and Jordan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in the fields of mining, industry, halal products, defense, cybersecurity, and combating extremism.

During the talks attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy the King highlighted the importance of establishing a strategic partnership with the Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara, to open new horizons for economic cooperation, and the exchange of expertise in developing and managing government investments.

Discussions also addressed regional developments, with His Majesty praising Indonesia’s supportive stance in support of the pursuit of just and comprehensive peace.

His Majesty underscored the imperative of all parties fully adhering to the Gaza ceasefire agreement, halting unilateral escalations against Palestinians in the West Bank, stopping attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and preserving the historical and legal status quo.

On the sidelines of the Royal visit, two memorandums of understanding were signed between the governments of Jordan and Indonesia; one in the fields of higher education, science and technology, and another in the health field.

His Majesty bestowed upon President Subianto the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance) in recognition of the president’s efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries and their peoples.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Indonesia Sidqi Omoush attended the talks.
