Amman, March 31 (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday met with members of the specialised committee to develop the judiciary, and received the committee’s recommendations, according to a royal court statement. During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty was briefed by Judicial Council President Mahmoud Ababneh, who is chair of the committee, on key recommendations.

The recommendations focused on reviewing legislation related to judicial work, judges, Judicial Council governance, and the judicial sector’s structural and technical infrastructure.

The committee, formed under Royal directives after the King’s visit to the Judicial Council last November, drew upon a set of existing references, plans, and regulatory frameworks.

The committee recommended amending more than 200 legal articles to standardise court procedures, effectively utilise technology, streamline and expedite litigation processes, increase the number of specialised judicial chambers, and to expand the jurisdiction of the Economic Chamber and enhance the efficiency of its judges in order to create a more attractive judicial environment for domestic and foreign investment.

His Majesty commended the committee’s efforts, emphasising the need to follow a clear action plan in order to immediately implement the recommendations within a set timeframe, and to ensure coordination and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders.

The King underlined the importance of evaluating the impact of the recommendations following their implementation, to guarantee desired outcomes are achieved.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.
