Amman, Aug. 4 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review government plans to enhance Jordan’s energy and food security, as well as its proactive strategies to address the repercussions of regional and global developments.
During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty was briefed on the relevant ministries’ measures to enhance and align food and energy security plans.
The meeting addressed the importance of ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources and increase reliance on domestic and renewable energy sources, thereby enhancing self-sufficiency and supporting the competitiveness of economic sectors and essential services.
The King directed the government to prepare and implement plans to strengthen strategic energy reserves, enhance national energy system readiness, and ensure its long-term sustainability and ability to cope with various global shifts.
Speaking about food security, His Majesty emphasised the importance of maintaining robust strategic food reserves of grains and essential commodities, and of refining management mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of supplies.
The King also called for expanding private sector partnerships in the storage and transport sectors to reinforce the Kingdom’s food security framework and goals.
His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein, chairman of the National Policies Council, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and a number of ministers and officials attended the meeting.
