LH committee approves 2026 Education Law amendments

Amman, April 1 (Petra) – Lower House (LH) Education Committee, chaired by MP Dr. Ibrahim Qaraleh, on Wednesday endorsed the 2026 Draft Law on Education and Human Resources Development, in the presence of the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh.
Speaking at the session, Qaraleh stated the bill was approved after "extensive" discussions with relevant authorities and experts.
Qaraleh said the committee was keen to study the draft "comprehensively and introduce the necessary amendments" to enhance quality of education and improve its outcomes, in line with national trends to modernize the education sector and requirements of development and the labor market.
He added that the committee worked "collaboratively by prioritizing the best interests of students and teachers." He called for developing the Kingdom's education system within a "modern" legislative framework that keeps pace with developments and enhances performance "efficiency." In turn, Mahafzeh reviewed the key features of the draft law, which aim to develop the legislative framework governing the Kingdom's educational process, strengthen governance, and raise "efficiency of institutional" performance within the ministry that will positively impact the quality of education and its outcomes.
The ministry, he noted, is "open" to various parliamentary observations and proposals aimed at improving the law's text to "ultimately reach a consensus" that serves the public interest, in preparation for completing the necessary constitutional procedures.
