Amman, April 26 (Petra) – Chairman of Lower House (LH) Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Haitham Ziyadin, affirmed Türkiye's "pivotal" role and its "active" presence in the region.
Ziyadin noted Jordanian-Turkish relations are witnessing "increasing growth and are strong and robust," which were established by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to a committee statement issued on Sunday, the MP's remarks came during a meeting with Chairman of the Turkish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Fuat Oktay, and the Turkish Ambassador to Jordan, Yakup Oğlu.
Ziyadin commended Ankara's support for the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, adding that the Palestinian cause is a "priority for Jordan," as His Majesty King Abdullah II is following up on it at both the international and regional levels.
He expressed the committee's rejection of the continued Israeli attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which violate international laws, conventions, and legitimacy, noting His Majesty's personal engagement in the airdrops to Gaza reflect direct attention to the cause.
He noted the importance of the King's visit to Türkiye last February and its role in strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.
He also called for signing a joint parliamentary memorandum of understanding to enhance the two countries' parliamentary diplomacy , as well as Türkiye's current development in various sectors.
Ziyadin addressed the political, economic, and administrative modernization in Jordan, which began with royal directives in 2022 and contributed to developing political participation and lowering the age of candidacy for parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, MPs Iman Abbasi, Othman Makhadmeh, Mohammad Sabaileh, Ali Ghizawi, and Huda Naffa emphasized the importance of strengthening and building upon relations with Türkiye.
The MPs praised Türkiye's development in various fields and affirmed their support for the Hashemite custodianship and the necessity of halting Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
Oktay, in turn, affirmed commitment to strengthening Jordanian-Turkish relations in various fields, pointing to the "deeprooted" ties between the two countries and their leaderships.
He noted the volume of trade exchange exceeded $2 billion in 2025, expressing the need to enhance tourist and religious cooperation, as well as cultural and educational exchange, as 71 Jordanian students studying in Türkiye and 51 Turkish students studying in Jordan.
Calling for reviving the Hejaz Railway and strengthening regional cooperation, he noted the importance of supporting stability in Syria, the necessity of expanding military and economic cooperation, and enhancing mutual parliamentary diplomacy.
Oktay also underscored importance of halting the bloodshed in the region and concluding peace agreements that promote security and stability.
