Amman, Feb. 23 (Petra) -- A low-pressure system centered north of Syria is set to trigger several days of unsettled weather, with rain, possible thunderstorms and a renewed storm system forecast later in the week, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.

Rain is expected to begin Monday as cloud cover increases and relatively cold conditions spread across most regions, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba remain milder. Showers are forecast to start in northern areas before extending to central regions by the afternoon under moderate westerly winds that may strengthen at times.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight, with colder weather and intermittent rainfall forecast across parts of the north, center, and southwestern regions. Thunder and hail may develop briefly late at night, the department said.

Officials warned of reduced visibility due to fog over mountainous and some plain areas, as well as blowing dust in the Badia regions. Motorists were urged to exercise caution due to slippery roads in areas receiving rainfall.

The relatively cold and moist air mass is expected to continue affecting the country on Tuesday, bringing further showers in western regions and parts of the northeastern areas, accompanied by active northwesterly winds.

A brief pause in the unsettled weather is forecast for Wednesday, with partly cloudy skies and continued cool conditions across most regions.

Forecast models indicate another low-pressure system could begin affecting the country on Thursday, bringing renewed cloud cover and additional rainfall in northern and central regions, extending to parts of the northeastern Badia, with strong northwesterly winds expected at times.

Temperatures in eastern Amman are forecast to range between 15 C and 7 C, while Aqaba is expected to record highs of 24 C and lows of 12 C.
