Mafraq, Sept. 15 (Petra) -- The Greater Mafraq Municipality has installed solar energy systems at several of its buildings as part of efforts to reduce its monthly electricity costs.
Chairman of the Municipal Committee Mohammad Khalaf Al-Fayez told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Tuesday that the project was funded through a JD 185,000 grant from an organization.
The systems were installed at the municipality’s old building, the municipal activities hall, the Youth Library, the municipality’s building in the Eidoun area, the Southern Neighborhood Council building, and the central market in downtown Mafraq.
Al-Fayez said the project is expected to reduce the municipality’s electricity bill by 70 to 80 percent, helping lower its operating expenses and reduce the financial burden on the municipal budget.
