Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) -- A noticeable drop in temperatures is expected on Tuesday, ushering in a stretch of relatively cold weather forecast to continue through Thursday before a warmer trend returns at the end of the week, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

Cooler conditions are expected to spread across most regions, while low-lying areas, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, remain comparatively warm. Cloud cover is forecast to increase at various altitudes, with a chance of light, scattered showers during the afternoon hours. Southwesterly to westerly winds are expected to blow at moderate speeds, becoming active at times and raising dust, particularly in Badia regions.

Authorities warned of reduced visibility due to blowing dust in desert areas and urged caution on roads that may become slippery in locations that receive rainfall.

Relatively cold conditions are expected to persist on Wednesday, with low-level clouds and active westerly winds likely to raise dust in several regions, especially across the Badia.

A further slight drop in temperatures is forecast for Thursday, bringing colder conditions to highland areas, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba remain mild. Low-level clouds are expected alongside moderate northwesterly winds.

A clearer improvement is forecast on Friday, when temperatures are expected to rise noticeably, bringing milder weather to most regions and warmer conditions to low-lying areas. Southeasterly winds are expected to blow at moderate speeds, becoming active at times.

For Tuesday, temperatures in eastern Amman are expected to range between 17 C and 8 C, compared with 15 C and 6 C in western Amman. The northern highlands are forecast to record temperatures between 12 C and 7 C, while the Sharah highlands will range from 14 C to 6 C. In the Badia, temperatures are expected to reach 22 C during the day before dropping to 5 C at night, while plains areas will see readings between 18 C and 9 C.

Low-lying areas will remain warmer, with temperatures expected to range between 23 C and 12 C in the northern Jordan Valley and 25 C and 16 C in the south. Aqaba is forecast to record highs of 26 C and lows of 15 C.
