Amman, Feb. 3 (Petra) – The steering committee for the regional "PlanBee" project concluded a high-level assembly in Amman today, establishing a framework for operational steps designed to revitalize the beekeeping economy and empower entrepreneurs across the Mediterranean basin.

In a statement issued by the Hand in Hand Association for Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship – a primary project partner – the coalition announced the launch of a comprehensive capacity-building program. This initiative features four specialized training tracks tailored for novice and advanced beekeepers, apiculture entrepreneurs, and professionals within the HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, and Café) sector. The program aims to institutionalize sustainable practices, elevate product quality, and integrate local honey into the broader Mediterranean gastronomic identity.

Central to the meeting's outcomes was the preparation of calls for proposals that will grant 20 apiculture entrepreneurs access to professional support services. Valued at up to €5,000 per beneficiary, these services include specialized consultancy in business scaling, product diversification, branding, innovation, and market access. Detailed eligibility criteria for these grants are expected to be released in the coming phase.

Demetra Palaonda, Project Coordinator at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, characterized the Amman session as a pivotal transition from strategic planning to field execution. She noted that the newly designed services are meticulously calibrated to meet the actual needs of beekeepers and the burgeoning apitourism sector within Mediterranean economies.

By synthesizing advanced training with interactive learning tools and bespoke advisory services, "PlanBee" seeks to foster sustainable expansion for rural entrepreneurs, thereby preserving local heritage and promoting environmental stewardship. The project, valued at €2.8 million and 89% funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT MED program, is led by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with seven partners across six Mediterranean regions.
