Mexico showcases 2026 World Cup preparations to local travel agencies

Amman, April 22 (Petra) -- The Embassy of Mexico in Jordan hosted an information session for local travel and tourism agencies to present the logistical and promotional framework for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The session provided a key platform for Jordanian travel professionals to prepare for the anticipated surge in demand following the historic qualification of Jordan’s national team, set to compete in its first-ever FIFA World Cup.

Ambassador Jacob Prado opened the session by welcoming representatives from leading agencies and emphasizing Mexico’s readiness to receive international football fans. He highlighted the country’s diverse tourism offering as a premier global destination, combining world-class infrastructure, hospitality, and cultural richness.

The presentation featured Mexico’s three host cities Mexico City ("The ball returns home"), Guadalajara ("The most Mexican host city"), and Monterrey ("Mexico’s most northern host city") and their iconic stadiums: the Azteca Stadium (capacity 87,500), the Akron Stadium (48,000), and the BBVA Stadium (53,500), respectively.

Attendees were also introduced to key tourist attractions in each city, showcasing a blend of modernity and ancient heritage. Mexico City offers landmarks such as the Templo Mayor, the Zócalo, Chapultepec Park, Teotihuacan, and the National Museum of Anthropology. Guadalajara highlights include its Historic Center, the Guadalajara Cathedral, and the nearby town of Tequila birthplace of Mexico’s most iconic spirit. Monterrey features attractions such as Fundidora Park, the Santa Lucía Riverwalk, and the impressive Sierra Madre mountains.

A focal point of the session was the tournament’s opening match, scheduled for June 11, 2026, at the Azteca Stadium, which will become the first stadium in history to host three FIFA World Cup opening matches (1970, 1986, and 2026).

To address travel logistics, the Embassy’s Consular Section provided a detailed overview of visa requirements, including application procedures and specific entry measures for the World Cup period. The session concluded with a Q&A segment aimed at facilitating smooth travel arrangements for Jordanian fans.

Mexico will host 13 matches during the tournament, reinforcing its central role in this historic 48-team edition. Beyond football, the country offers a wide range of tourism experiences, from colonial cities and world-renowned beaches to adventure travel destinations.
