Minister checks on readiness, efficiency of Aqaba's water sector for summer

Amman, May 12 (Petra) – During an inspection visit to Aqaba Water Company (AWC) on Tuesday, Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, called for enhancing the sector's readiness and maintaining services in Aqaba.

He checked on preparations for the summer season, the operational status, and the progress of water supply operations to Aqaba and the southern governorates.

The tour is part of ongoing efforts to ensure readiness of the water sector and enhance service efficiency in the southern regions.

Talking at the visit, Abu Saud called for guaranteeing "sustainability" of water services within the specified timeframes to meet citizens' needs.

He urged "expedited" development and rehabilitation of water sources and action to cut the network's technical and administrative losses by integrating modern technologies.

He also highlighted the need to enhance efficiency of maintenance and operation teams and develop sanitation services, which is a "priority" within the ministry's plan to improve the environmental and service conditions in Aqaba.

He praised the "constructive" cooperation and coordination with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and all official entities in the governorate.

This joint effort has positive impact on service development and operational efficiency, which in turn improves the water situation and provides citizens with the best possible service, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Company's Director General, Wael Duwairi, highlighted its key achievements and preparations, discussing future plans to ensure continuous water supply and improve service quality, particularly to meet the needs of tourism in Aqaba and supply drinking water to the governorates of Karak, Tafila, and Ma'an.

On its policy, he said the company's management relies on operational and strategic plans aimed at reducing water loss, increasing system efficiency and developing sanitation services.

He noted ongoing coordination with the relevant stakeholders is a "key" pillar in implementing priority programs and projects.
