Minister talks human capital investment at digital skills programme graduation

Amman, July 1 (Petra) – Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat called for investing in skills development and capacity building as a cornerstone of preparing Jordanian youth and talent to meet the evolving labour market demands.

Smeirat made the remarks during the graduation ceremony for participants in an on-the-job training programme implemented by the Digital Skills Association under the Youth, Technology and Jobs Project, in partnership with the Women's Microfinance Fund, according to a ministry statement issued Wednesday.

Smeiat said that developing skills is no longer optional but essential to keeping pace with the rapidly changing labour market. He added that the ministry supports programmes that equip younger people and professionals with practical experience and advanced capabilities, expanding opportunities for career growth while contributing to the objectives of Jordan's Economic Modernisation Vision.

He said that effective partnerships among the public sector, private sector and civil society organisations provide a successful model for designing and delivering high-quality programmes that respond to labour market needs and strengthen investment in human capital.

Chair of the Digital Skills Association Alaa Nashiwat said the programme demonstrates the importance of aligning training with labour market requirements, enabling participants to acquire in-demand skills and improve their professional readiness and career prospects.

Chief Executive Officer Maha Saeed said that empowering youth and employees with digital and leadership skills is a key driver of sustainability, service excellence and community development.

The ceremony marked the graduation of 124 participants, including 74 graduates from the Digital Empowerment and Employment track and 50 employees from the Career Advancement track.

Participants completed an intensive three-month programme combining classroom instruction with practical training through hands-on projects, career mentoring and continuous assessments designed to strengthen their technical, professional and leadership competencies.
