Amman, March 18 (Petra) -- The Ministerial Committee overseeing the 2026–2027 National Cleanliness and Anti-Indiscriminate Waste Dumping Strategy on Wednesday announced the launch of a comprehensive national plan to enhance public cleanliness during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with broad participation from multiple official entities.

The plan includes intensive cleaning campaigns targeting parks, tourist and archaeological sites, and nature reserves across the Kingdom’s governorates, particularly areas experiencing high visitor turnout during the holiday.

Implementation is led by the Ministries of Environment and Local Administration, in coordination with municipalities and the Greater Amman Municipality, while the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities oversees campaigns at tourist and heritage sites. The Ministry of Interior, through administrative governors and relevant directorates, supports operational efforts, and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature conducts activities within nature reserves.

To curb littering and promote responsible environmental behavior, the program includes the distribution of waste bags to visitors, including designated in-vehicle disposal bags.

Monitoring measures will be intensified through expanded inspection tours across picnic areas, supported by fixed and foot patrols. The Public Security Directorate, through the Royal Department for Environmental Protection and the Tourist Police, will enforce compliance with environmental regulations and address violations affecting site cleanliness.

As part of infrastructure upgrades, the program will deploy 300 metal waste containers, each with a capacity of 1,100 liters, in addition to installing 300 suspended waste bins at key recreational, tourist, and archaeological locations. Implementation will begin in Irbid Governorate, before expanding to the remaining governorates.

On the awareness front, a nationwide media campaign will be rolled out in partnership with relevant stakeholders. The campaign will utilize text messaging, video content, and digital platforms, with the participation of environmental advocates and influencers, to promote environmental stewardship and reinforce sustainable practices.

The committee stressed that maintaining the cleanliness of public, natural, and tourist sites is a shared responsibility, urging citizens to adhere to proper environmental practices during holiday outings to safeguard natural resources and preserve public spaces. It added that field activities may be postponed in the event of adverse weather conditions to ensure public safety.
