Ministry detects 2 attacks on water sources, networks in Irbid

Irbid, May 6 (Petra) – Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Jordan Water Authority (JWA), in cooperation with the Yarmouk Water Company, detected 2 attacks on drinking water sources and networks in northern Irbid governorate during joint monitoring and security campaigns.

The necessary legal measures were taken against the violators.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the ministry said its Internal Control Directorate, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the Gendarmerie Forces, and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, conducted "extensive" monitoring campaigns in several areas that uncovered 2 attacks on water sources.

The statement said a 22-cubic-meter water tanker truck was used to siphon off and sell quantities from unknown source was seized after information was received about illegal activity threatening safety of water sources.

During the crackdown, the tanker was completely emptied and destroyed.

In another case, the ministry indicated that an attack on a water supply pipeline to a house was discovered.

The subscriber had tampered with and removed the water meter, and used a pump and a private tank to illegally fill water containers.

The meter was confiscated, the supply pipeline was disconnected, and the necessary reports were filed against the violator.

As for its policy, the ministry stated its monitoring campaigns will continue nationwide to protect Jordan's water resources, ensure equitable distribution, and maintain water-related security.

The ministry said any tampering with water networks will be met with strict legal measures, urging citizens to cooperate and report any violations that harm the public interest.
