National Conference Highlights AI-Driven Transformation of Healthcare Sector

Amman, Feb. 15 (Petra) – The second National Health Conference, organized by the Jordan Forum for Policy Dialogue, opened Sunday in Amman under the theme "The Health System Between Digital Transformation and the Age of Artificial Intelligence," with broad official, parliamentary, academic and medical participation.

The event focused on advancing digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) integration within Jordan’s healthcare system in line with the comprehensive modernization agenda.

Chairperson of the forum, Dr. Hamid Batayneh, said the conference reflects Royal directives aimed at enhancing the health sector’s competitiveness and institutional readiness. He stressed that digital health infrastructure, advanced data analytics and AI-driven applications have become central to improving service quality, rationalizing expenditure and strengthening patient outcomes.

He highlighted the pharmaceutical sector as a strategic component of national health security and economic growth, noting that investment in innovation and AI is essential to ensuring sustainability and regional leadership.

President of the Jordan Medical Association, Dr. Issa Khashashneh, said AI technologies are increasingly embedded in clinical practice, supporting diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making. He affirmed the Association’s commitment to accelerating digital health transformation, pointing to the launch of the Jordan Digital Health Center with the support of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

For his part, Dr. Firas Hanandeh, President of Ajloun National University, said global healthcare systems are shifting toward data-driven and evidence-based models. He cited findings from the World Health Organization on the role of deep learning technologies in enhancing diagnostic precision and reducing medical errors, stressing the need for robust legislative and ethical frameworks and sustained capacity building.

Chairperson of the Health Committee in the Lower House of Parliament, Ahmed Sarhanah, called for clear regulatory frameworks governing AI applications in healthcare, addressing medical liability, data protection and ethical oversight. He urged the development of specialized legislation and safeguards to ensure human supervision of intelligent medical systems.

Participants concluded that digital transformation in healthcare is a national priority directly linked to service sustainability, efficiency of public spending and patient trust. They emphasized the importance of translating conference recommendations into actionable policies through partnerships among government entities, the private sector and academic institutions, positioning Jordan as a regional model in healthcare modernization and pharmaceutical innovation.
