NCSC, JEPCO partner to raise cyber protection for Jordan's electricity sector

Amman, June 28 (Petra) – National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) and Jordanian Electric Power Company limited (JEPCO) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance joint cooperation in the cybersecurity field, contributing to raising level of cyber readiness and protecting the digital infrastructure in the electricity sector.

According to a NCSC statement, the memo was signed by the Center's Director General, MohammEd Smadi, and JEPCO Director General, Hassan Abdullah.

During the signing ceremony, Smadi said the memo comes within the framework of the center's efforts to strengthen partnerships with institutions in vital sectors and establish a "comprehensive" national cybersecurity system.

Smadi noted this efforts aims to protect digital systems and services and enhance the capacity to confront the increasing cyber threats.

He noted cooperation with JEPCO aims to exchange expertise and knowledge, human capacity development, referringto collaboration in risk assessment, cyber incident response, and application of the best practices and national standards in cybersecurity.

For his part, Abdullah noted cybersecurity is a "top priority" for the company, stemming from its commitment to protecting its digital systems and critical infrastructure, and ensuring the "continued provision of its services efficiently and reliably." The memo, he stated, comes within the framework of strengthening the joint "strategic" partnership, leveraging national expertise in developing the cybersecurity system, and raising the preparedness level to deal with cyber threats, in line with the best practices and standards in this field.

Under the memo, the two sides will cooperate in several areas, mainly exchanging information on cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure, particularly the electricity sector, implementing joint cybersecurity exercises, conducting security assessments of information technology and operational technology networks.

The stattement added that collaboration targets smart metering systems; and exchange of experiences, opinions, ideas, and proposals on common issues in the cybersecurity area.
