Amman, September 1 (Petra) – The death toll from floods and mudslides that swept through parts of Nepal has risen to 1,003, while nearly 4,000 people remain missing, including 590 foreigners from 39 countries, Nepalese authorities said Tuesday.

Search and rescue operations are continuing for a sixth consecutive day as authorities work to reach areas severely affected by the disaster.

According to Reuters, Nepal's Disaster Management Authority said at least 639 people remain trapped at several severely damaged hydroelectric power stations, which have become a major focus of ongoing rescue efforts.

Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah said in a social media post that thousands of citizens had lost their homes, families, loved ones and possessions.

He added that more than 11,000 people had been rescued from affected areas, while electricity and communication services had been restored in some locations.

Authorities are providing assistance to people displaced by the floods and mudslides.
