Nursing Council Hails Cabinet Approval of New Nursing, Midwifery Classification System

Amman, July 28 (Petra) – The Jordanian Nursing Council on Tuesday hailed the Cabinet's approval of the 2026 Specialization and Technical Classification System for the Nursing and Midwifery Professions, saying the regulations establish a modern legislative framework that will strengthen professional standards, enhance healthcare quality and patient safety, and create clear career pathways for nurses and midwives.

The Cabinet-approved system aims to scientifically and professionally regulate the nursing and midwifery professions by defining specialization levels and their requirements, improving the quality and sustainability of healthcare services, and authorizing the Jordanian Nursing Council to issue guidelines governing professional classification levels, standards, and criteria.

Secretary-General of the Jordanian Nursing Council Hani Nawafleh told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the new system marks a strategic shift in regulating the profession by replacing the traditional approach to specialization and classification with a competency-based framework built on structured training, practical experience, continuous evaluation, and institutional governance.

He said the regulations establish clear career pathways for nurses and midwives, promote fair and transparent standards for professional advancement, and align education and training outcomes with labor market needs, enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian nursing professionals locally, regionally, and internationally.

Nawafleh added that the system supports the Economic Modernization Vision, the National Strategy for Human Resource Development, and the Public Sector Modernization Roadmap by strengthening healthcare human capital and fostering a culture of quality, excellence, and innovation across the sector.

The Council will begin preparing executive instructions and procedural guidelines in cooperation with health sector partners to ensure the gradual and effective implementation of the new regulations, he said.
