One killed in oil tank fire at factory in Mafraq, civil defence says

Amman, May 5 (Petra) -- Specialized firefighting crews from the Mafraq Civil Defense Directorate, supported by teams from Zarqa, East Irbid, Jerash, and East Amman, extinguished a major fire on Tuesday that broke out in two tanks containing mineral oils at a factory in Mafraq Governorate.

The blaze, which erupted in two large reservoirs containing mineral oils, required an extensive mobilization of resources. Support units from the North and Central commands also joined the operation to contain the volatile materials.

A spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that the nature of the burning mineral oil demanded significant time and strategic effort to suppress. Crews worked to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent facilities and neighboring factories.

The spokesperson confirmed that the fire resulted in one fatality. A man of Arab nationality died from severe burns sustained during the incident. Emergency medical teams evacuated the deceased to the Mafraq Government Hospital.

A massive contingent of specialized Civil Defense vehicles, alongside personnel from the Police and Gendarmerie forces, participated in the containment efforts. Authorities have established a technical committee to investigate the cause of the fire.
