Amman, April 13 (Petra) – The Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee on Monday approved a deal for copper mining in Abu Khsheiba in Wadi Aaraba in southern Jordan.
The panel considered the agreement due to its direct impact on a vital sector and a key contributor to the national economy, assessing its economic feasibility, guarantees, and implementation mechanisms, said MP Ayman Abu Haniyeh, head of the committee.
He said the committee seeks to achieve a balance between encouraging investment and protecting national interests, on the one hand, and utilizing natural resources and ensuring their sustainability, clarity in obligations and flexibility of agreements.
"The committee discussed clauses of the agreement with a sense of national responsibility, reviewed the opinions of relevant stakeholders, and raised a number of inquiries to ensure clarity regarding rights and obligations," said Abu Haniyeh.
